Add: Scenario concept (wizard, organizer, visual layer, etc)
All of our plans consists of several ‘scenarios’ that are working together, like 401K contributions + HSA contributions + Social Security + Inheritance + Annuity + Life Insurance + sell/buy vehicle every 7yrs etc + stocks + LTC Insurance + etc/etc/etc
Something like a SCENARIO concept in PL I believe would help us keep things (mentally) organized, and potentially better visualized.
SCENARIO Wizard / Builder — This is the configuration of the scenario, consisting of the milestones, income, expenses, assets, accounts, cash flow, draw down, etc. that all work together within that scenario. By rolling all this up to a ‘scenario’ name, it becomes easier to understand now that all the components have been built to fit together and work together. From a beginners (to retirement planning) perspective, could have wizards to build out common scenarios (like social security, job income, home ownership, etc.) for people to work through.
SCENARIO Organizer – This is a list of all the scenarios which have been built within the plan. Quick inventory for popping into a scenario to tweak a parameter (like a milestone or cash flow). Within the organizer, would be nice to have the ability to toggle on/off that scenario. Turning OFF the “spouse inheritance” scenario deactivates every milestone, income, expense, etc. in that scenario. Instead of mentally knowing what these individual parts are in PL now for me to activate/deactivate, a single on/off scenario toggle would be way beneficial. Could have a check-list within the organizer to make sure that the most common scenarios have been built, or a list of PL prebuilt scenario wizards avail for the user to work through. From a community lens, could have the ability for people to submit custom scenarios that they built for community/PL review, and those become candidates for future PL scenarios to get added to the wizard list. The interesting angle here is that a community submitted complex scenario built as a ‘work around’ to functionality not yet in PL COULD be accepted by PL as the right ‘work around’ approach and add to their scenario list. Then when the PL roadmap introduces the feature so that the work around is no longer needed, then PL WOULD also update that PL approved scenario so that anyone using that scenario would automatically have the new feature within that scenario. This might be a means of helping people not having to totally rebuild a scenario when new functionality comes out....?
SCENARIO “Impact Visualizer” — Visualizing how a scenario impacts the plan now becomes easier for PL to manage. A thought for ‘scenario impact’ mode would be for all the graphs turn to a grayscale color, but then colorize only the part of the graph impacted by the scenario. Would be a way easier means to view if the scenario is impacting the plan like one is anticipating. My simple brain: turn my plan gray, and then use color to only show-me-the-money of the scenario.
All the building blocks are in PL for this scenario concept…its really just “rolling up” or “bundling” various milestones, accounts, income, expenses, etc. that work together for a single purpose.
