Overwarm single for competition lifts

For competition lifts, I’ve previously used an overwarm single 1@~8RPE before hitting my planned sets and I feel it’s a great tool to not “forget” how to lift heavy and it also works great for me as a warm up routine.

I think this may be a good addition to the Velos-ID based training. There are clear signs for which days this could be helpful. So it might be best to implement them there at the right times instead of on just any regular day.

I also think an overwarm single is good before the PPL amraps. Probably not at an 8 RPE, maybe even just at 80%.

Personally, an overwarm single has been useful to me for almost all types of training, be it PPL/Powerbuilding/Prep0+1, but also other types of training programs ouside Sheiko Gold.

    Can’t speak for Velos-ID since I don’t have one.

When tracking velocity you can see the boost an overwarm set can give on back off sets. But only on some days. When your initial warmup sets are moving a bit sluggishly, say 10% slower than your recent bests (e.g. 80kg moved at 0.65m/s today but your recent best with 80kg is 0.73m/s), then an overwarm protocol can put you back up near your recent best level in the following sets. But if you were already near your best levels while warming up (e.g. 80kg moved at 0.71m/s today) the overwarm doesn’t add anything (e.g. upon returning to 80kg after your overwarm you’re still at 0.71m/s). In that case, it’s probably better just to continue with the heavier sets instead. In order to add it to non-Velos-ID workouts I’d need to find some way to identify what’s happening on certain days without being able to track the reps. Maybe there’s a way to make better predictions based on the existing data.
