Personally I absolutely hate dark modes 😂

But if iOS 13 arrives with support for Dark Mode, and iOS’s own UI has a Dark Mode, then I will do my job and add a Dark Mode to Arc as well (controlled by the system-wide Dark Mode on/off setting).

For viewing apps at night, I recommend turning on auto brightness, so that your phone’s screen dims at night. That will also save a lot of battery, as the screen is the largest consumer of battery in the phone.

I have auto brightness turned on and I like how it changes based on the lighting in the room and it remembers your preference for certain lighting conditions. In my opinion black backgrounds are better than white backgrounds and easier on the eyes.

It would also be awesome to get a dark mode app icon. A OLED black background with a white or purple icon.

Dark mode would be great. I wonder if it would be available on version 4.

Dark mode is still strongly needed. I often review my moves in the late evening and cannot stand the white background at night. :))

I too check the Arc app first thing in the morning at 5am because it won’t record next location I go to unless I actually open the app, my eyes get pretty annoyed too for the bright screen.

Any news for the planned dark mode? I cannot emphasise enough the importance enough from my side. :)

It seems like if the app has been abandoned. My best alternative was the Geory app. They just added a whole bunch of new maps to the app.

I don’t know if the whole app is abandoned, but dark mode surely is. Holding my breath for about 2 years now. I’ll check out Geory, thanks for the tip. There are more things about Arc that annoy me and don’t seem to ever get resolved (misclassifications of activities like airplane for 3 minutes, walking at 40 km/u etc., having to delete bogus data one by one, sometimes the list is 100s of entries, slow performance).

I keep hoping 4.0 will come out and be amazing. I know it’s basically just Matt working on this so things probably do take awhile.

I just happened to find the Geory app by accident, then I checked it out and it has dark mode, options to add notes, several mapping options and it is been updated every single week. There is a reason why it has a 5 stars rating so I decided to use it and I am impressed that the premium version cost 6.99 dollars. Arc can take 3 more years but it no longer matters to me.

the app seems still updating. but very slow. not sure if we can see 4.0 at the end of the year. I remember it should be out on late 2020 or start of 2021

I’ll definitely check it out. I don’t even mind paying monthly; it’s the model of the future and I get that from a producer perspective it’s great to have recurring revenue. I just think the pace of development is slow in general and to be honest I’m quite annoyed that dark mode is still not here. 2 years, come on.

Data privacy seems legit, I’m going to check it out. Appreciate you letting us know about this.

I still hope for Arc 4.0, see improvements and won’t go. My data history goes back to 2013 (moves and Arc!), so shifting boat is nothing I would consider easily. :)

I have lost all my data with Arc a few times already so for me that is nothing new. I am super glad to have found the Geory app, not turning back for us.

The Geory app has been pretty good so far. Something I wish it did like Arc but it’s actively updating so I’m sure features will be added. Appreciate the recommendation.

I also use Life Cycle. It’s not actively updated but it still does some decent tracking and break downs using a pie chart.

I just found out by testing the Beta for the Geory app that the developer is adding Weather integration as well to the app. He is updating it one a weekly basis with amazing features. This has been my greatest alternative to Arc.

I’m disappointed with the way Dark Mode has been implemented. It is not like what Dark Mode is in every other iOS app. I was hoping it would look more like the Dark Mode in Arc Mini. More options to customize the Dark Mode would be nice, some of us want it really dark.

Looks like the new Dark Mode theme is just the start. There will potentially be a better Dark Mode theme in the future, but it will require more work.

Arc mini is definitely the preferred dark mode implementation. No white backgrounds if possible.

I agree with John: please establish the same dark mode option in Arc as in Arc Mini!

Just tried Arc Mini and the dark mode there with no white backgrounds is exactly what the full Arc app needs!

Noting this has been moved to completed, dark mode implementation in app that renders webpages as black background with alternative colours for text/white use in page design would be really helpful for early/late hours use, as well as some members of the disability community
