Reminders to log in based on typical usage & remind if I haven't logged X yet

Learn when I typically use the app, and send me push notifications if I haven’t logged any data within an hour or so of my usual check in times. I have push notifications set (they don’t seem to work on my Samsung S9 though) but it would be great to have the app reach out to me to help me stay consistent with logging.

    And turn off the notification if already in the app! I already guessed the right time I usually use the app but now if I am using it I still get the reminder and that startels me 😅

    Yeah just to clarify - I never get the notifications at all if I’m not in the app. When I open the app I get a bunch of them (guessing I’m getting the ones I have scheduled, but again only if I launch the app). That seems to be a bug, so fixing that would be awesome in addition to the idea about pushing me a prompt if I haven’t opened the app in a while and it’s at a time of day when I often do (ie not 4am or something).

    Brilliant! Its all about capturing the real data. This would help at times. Thanks for the idea, RBL

    (Off-topic, but about your notification issue… Have you made sure Bearable isn’t set to optimize battery use/Doze? That could be why it only is able to send notifications when the app is active. You can try these steps here to see, and to disable battery optimization for it in particular - plus any other apps this may cause issues with: https://www.makeuseof.com/tag/androids-battery-optimization-harm-good/ )

    As for the request, I agree that since I’m on a very non-standard sleep schedule, most of the notifications I get reminding me to log my stuff, happen when I’m still asleep. So I end up having to clear a bunch of messages one by one, which makes me more prone to ignoring them when they come up and I’m awake, since I’m mentally associating them with “Yeah ugh go away” feelings. ^^;;

    So, if sensing active use patterns is too difficult, I suggest maybe letting us set specific times for notifications. We can choose like: “Remind me at… (time)” +Add reminder

    And we can click to add as many reminders as we like, at whatever times we want. :)

    That way, I don’t get way too many notifs which overwhelms me, putting me on defensive and anxious if I’m not really ready to sit down and do this, nor will I needlessly get a bunch at a time that’s useless to me, that I have to brush off of my status bar like a layer of dust every “morning” (afternoon-evening). ;3

    Being able to time them to like, soon after I usually wake up, half an hour after I usually have each meal (and thus have also taken my meds), and one more time half an hour before bed, for example, would be most useful to me.

    It would let me make updating Bearable a structured habit on a schedule, instead of just chaotic “Ugh I can’t right now, I’m busy, I’ll just swipe that off cuz I’m still dealing with other notifs and it’ll bother me if it stays there, it’ll nag me sometime again later anyway.”

    Letting us structure the reminders to our own timings would let them be welcome instead. “Oh yeah, I DID just have lunch, let’s get this slot filled in.” :)

    Would be nice to have reminders linked to items with if statements attached which only go off if they aren’t done by a certain time or at a certain frequency. Why? 1) Limiting notifications helps those of us with issues focusing. If I remembered to log my mood right before a 2 hour meeting it’s distracting to get a reminder during and in the moment I always second guess if I did do log the thing and end up leaving the notification until I have time to check or (more likely) enter a new log. 2) Useful for those of us with flexible schedules day-to-day. If my goal is to log at least 3 meals a day with no more than 5 hours in between, I may not be able to always eat at 3 set times. I might work better with 5x snack sized meals because I’m traveling or have to shift a meal by an hour or two to make a meeting. 3) Good for bad days when I just want to crash early. Don’t want to be distracted by notifications when I’m trying to sleep but ok with a notification if it means I can be sure I wrap up all my most important logs.
