Ability to change symptom severity scale

At moment, you can select mild to severe. When adding a new symptom, I’d like to customise this for example ‘yes/no’, ‘low/med/high’, ‘1-10’ ‘small/med/big’ and so on

It is awkward to have my “Drowsiness” symptom identify “Unbearable” as when I’m super tired. It is invaluable for some of my symptoms to have a greater range of values. I think Harley’s examples perfectly convey the values needed on this feature.

I would love this as well, the 1-10 would be so helpful! For me I end up putting moderate for everything because I feel like I’m over exaggerating putting things at severe or unbearable when I’m reality they are a 7/10.

I need a 0-10 scale. Otherwise I am marking so many things as unbearable. Which leads me to have to add notes for every symptom explaining where on a 0-10 scale it is and what type of pain it is. I also have to add way more symptoms because of the different types of pain that could be being happening. I know this is my top issue right now with the app. My doctors don’t understand why most things are almost always unbearable. They want to see more of a range than what you have now or they think I am lying about my symptoms.

A 0-10 scale would be nice! UI-wise maybe it is a hold and scroll? I love having the ability to quickly show my pain. I think it’s a little confusing on the bar graph to have “zero” have a marking. “Moderate” goes almost halfway up! It confused me for a while, I had to go back and change what I marked as “zero” to “Moderate”.

If y’all do a 0-10 scale, I understand you’d probably have to assign a numeric value to “moderate” “severe” and “unbearable”. You could have moderate = 3, severe = 6 and unbearable = 10. Just a suggestion! Thanks again for all y’all do :)

OvuView has some excellent features like this, where you can track something as a yes/no, low/medium/high, or any of a number of user-set tags/labels (including ones that are just emoji!).

Yes! I have exactly this problem. The wording adds meaning to the rating that doesn’t always help me to be actuate or honest. Thanks!

Ability to return a symptom box to empty (rather than just “none” ). If you accidentally press a symptom for a time period you do not want to fill it affects your insight statistics. For example, I leave the “pre” boxes empty but a couple accidental clicks has left my data skewed and no longer helpful.

Custom scale would allow me to match it to my doctor’s normal chart they are having me fill out for many months.

This would enable me to use only bearable as a symptom tracker app, as opposed to the multiple I juggle now. There are some things my brain comprehends on a 1-10 scale, and some things that work better with the scale Bearable currently uses. Being able to select which scale to use for each symptom would greatly increase usability.

Custom scale would be great. I use 1-10 with my doctor and would like to have this option to help my report progress to him

Yes, this would be amazing! I currently track as Mild = 1-3 Moderate = 4-6 Severe = 7-8 Unbearable = 9-10 But it would be so helpful to have more nuance

This would be extremely helpful for me! I normally use a different scale for tracking symptoms so this is keeping me from relying on this app.

This would be such an easier, more personalized way of tracking the levels and more accurately putting an intesity level of the symptoms. I see the other comments are from 1-2 years old. Has there been any updates currently? Or is this an update only for Premium users?

Yes! I am using this app to track my symptoms so that I can communicate the severity and frequency more accurately to my doctor, but they want pain reports on a 1-10 scale. Please add this feature!!

Yes I would also like to be able to identify positive things like “my focus today was poor, good, great, excellent” etc… that doesn’t fit with the current markers like mild severe etc

Having to pick mild/medium/severe definitely leads to me under-reporting some symptoms that would be better off as a yes/no (even though intellectually i know that I could just put in e.g. ‘mild’ every time.)

A customizable scale would be useful for ratings throughout the app, e.g., mood, air quality, etc. So we can match each scale to individual sources or reporting needs.

I use ‘mild’ a lot when my real answer might be ‘barely,’ and ‘severe’ when I mean ‘worse than moderate’ - but not necessarily severe. Would love the option of a different scale.

I agree to this! Health professionals generally use 10 point scales here, and the 5 point scale doesn’t allow for much nuance. Maybe it’s the connotation of the terms used as well. I frequently downrate my symptoms because it feels wrong to call them unbearable, even though for me personally they’re at their worst (which just means I have to take painkillers and have to pretty much sit on the couch for the rest of the day..).

Yes, please add this feature. I suffer from a chronic illness (lyme). Me and other people with a tick born disease need to scale symptoms in larger range or in a totally different way. It is very common that the doctors use a symptom scale from 1 to 10 as well.

My premium subscription renews on 10/05. I have cancelled it and left a review in the Apple App Store. If this feature is ever expanded/enhanced, I’ll consider resubscribing, but not until then. Having this capability is absolutely critical for me.

I’d love to have this be customizable. I’ve tried out the app for a few days now, but the symptom and sleep scale just don’t work for me. I have a severe chronic condition and I don’t want to see the word “awful” and the color red so much – it makes me depressed and less hopeful which actually makes my symptoms worse. Being able to customize these would be amazing and I would choose to subscribe to the app if that happened.

I’m glad to see this under consideration. I had (have) a hard time admitting my symptoms have been “severe” or “unbearable,” even if I’d rate them 8+ on a 1-10 scale. A more objective rating system would be helpful for those of us still coming to terms with what we’re tracking. I actually don’t mind the colors, it’s the phrases and emojis that assign subjective value to the scores. A simple toggle on/off for phrases/emoji would go a long way, (think how light and dark mode work in most apps).

Yes please, the app is great otherwise and I really don’t want to switch to another method.

I actually like the existing symptom score method (mild, moderate, severe, unbearable.)

I think this could be really useful for when I’m tracking symptoms to share with my doctor, so I could have more specific numbers.

Yes, I have some where I only track 0-2 or 0-3.

Would be useful for custom ratings too.

Me too!! I just had to recalibrate the way I was rating symptoms. Just because I feel it often and keep living my life, if I have to alter the way I move or do things, it’s not mild!

I know it has “Bearable” in it, but I’ve always thought calling the highest severity “unbearable” seems against the spirit of the app. Like how/when do you define something as “unbearable”? I feel like if I’m not dead I’m successfully bearing it, therefore it’s not “unbearable” (I’m not even tracking or experiencing anything that might be life threatening). I don’t think I’ve ever used “unbearable”.

I agree with the other comments about wanting more granular options for symptom severity. There are plenty of times where there has been a change in the severity of my symptom, but not enough of a change to go up a level when there are only 3 - 4 levels. It also makes a lot of sense to track with a 1 - 10 scale to allow matching scales used by doctors, although that’s not something I need myself.

Please add the option to use a pain scale of 0 to 10. Because my doctors use the 1-10 pain scale, I think in those increments as well. It’s difficult to translate that into the four current options ranging from “mild” to “unbearable.” When I rate something as a 3, it’s a very different pain level than a 5; however, if I divide the 1-10 scale evenly to fit into Bearable’s four current rating options, both my 3 and 5 would end up being “moderate.”

thank you for putting this into words. fully agree- especially as a disabled woman who has been medically gaslight her whole life, I constantly feel like i’m being over dramatic if I hit “unbearable” unless I genuinely feel like I’m dying.

Note for developers: I do really appreciate and love the wordplay on unbearable though <3
