Food Details

I don’t need a full scale nutrition tracking app. But I do need to track how much protein I’m getting because of the diet I need to be on for my condition. But there is no way to provide any information about a meal item! I don’t need any fancy lookup. I just literally want to be able to attach a comment to a particular type of food.

Also, it is way too easy to delete a food from a meal. You just tap on it. I keep doing it by mistake. It feels like that should let you see details about it

Agreed! I’ve deleted more than I want, and it often doesn’t make its way into recents of you having previously saved.

    Charlotte,

Here’s what I’m doing to retain nutritional info. I added Health Measurements for each that I want to track. (Protein, Fiber, Fat, Sugar, and even Portion Size)

Since I don’t think I can handle gathering the specific numbers (like in milligrams), I have them setup as a rating from 0 to 10. The “unit of measure” is set to “/ 10” so it reads “3 / 10” on the home screen.

Note that I hope to eventually get integration of nutrition’s actual numbers as gathered in another app (my Fitbit seems to do it) and never enter it again in Bearable.

I realize this means entry of many values instead of staying in a single Notes screen to gather it all. But notes don’t supply info into your reporting and analysis. Its basically journalling.

Another suggestion if you are OK with journaling: Just one health measure to track each meal. Perhaps its “Healthiness of meal”. Then use notes for the rest.

The ability to track calories and sugar would be nice for weight management

Thinking out loud. I just like to think about how things might work. Maybe they could make a ‘group’ like the health measurements in food. But where you can enter if it’s a goal, or a max. So protein would be a goal to get at least 100mg, sugar would be a max of 5mg (no clue atm) Then if you have egg as a favorite, be able to attach protein 15mg to it. (Then you would also need to be able to count how many eggs you eat) so when you add egg to your food diary it would automatically count +15mg protein of 100mg. Only doing this for favorite food items. And then for other food items you would need to enter yourself to the ‘food health measurement Protein’ section. Also in both cases to go over the goal or max, so being able to end up with 100mg sugar. And maybe be able to set threshold amount as factors, so for protein one factor is <50mg, then <75mg and then 75-125 and 125<. If somehow it is integrated into insights, you might be able to see what it does when you don’t get enough or to much. And the diffrence with a goal or a max being if you get to little protein it is worse then less sugar so that in that way you can see that you did well when you’ve entered 150mg protein and 1mg sugar.

The ability to enter food eaten at a specific time. I nibble all day, and it’s difficult to see my patterns without knowing exactly when I ate.
