Grouping factors together

Just like in the last update your can group symptoms together, it would be helpful to this with factors as well. Especially if you can use the groups for the insights. For example, I can group milk and yogurt together under “dairy”, and I can see the insights for milk, yogurt, or dairy.

Hi Tiago, I realise we don’t have insights for this yet, but for now could you just create a “Dairy” category in the Factors section? Or did you mean something else?

Hi! Indeed I could. The problem is that this is just an example , there would be dozens of things I would group. And I would each time have to mark the specific factor + the group. The app is already very time consuming (not the apps fault, just requires time to log stuff), so this isn’t feasible.

Several “layers” of groups makes it even trickier. For example, with the dairy, I would also like to track specific brands of yogurt, as I have a feeling that some are better for my digestion than others, but that would yet another category. Just to track my morning yogurt I would have to track 3 things: yogurt brand, yogurt, dairy.

Almost all the factors that I track can be grouped in this fashion, and would not only make logging easier but provide much better insights too.

I see what you mean. This kind of grouping within groups might be difficult.

We’ll have to think a bit more about this.

Maybe there could be some “Related factors”. section in the add/edit page for each factor which you could mark automatically get turned on when you select that factor. Not sure if that would help.

If the groups within groups are what makes it difficult then I don’t think it’s a huge deal if it’s not done. Just being able to do a single group would already help.

The related factors would work, I think. The only downside I can think of is that they still won’t be organized, so the act of selection will be a mess (it’s already a bit hard for me in some factors since there is a ton of them, so adding even more of them would make it even harder).

Big fan of allowing multiple “categories” on factors, symptoms, health measures, etc. “Grouping” is too restrictive as each factor can only go into 1 group.

Suppose the data point comes from the Factor I’ve created called “Fat intake”. I can use Fat Intake in reports for exercise, nutrition, weight, etc. I would therefore have categories for “Exercise”, “Nutrition”, and “Weight” attached to “Fat Intake” and Insights will let me pick by category.

The one thing to determine is if the user has a desire to use grouping more for data entry than analysis. The Group Symptoms feature felt very much like a UI feature. I’ve created groups that aren’t necessarily based on the issues I’m tracking. They are based on how to find them easily during data entry.

Please ensure that we have both ways to group factors and the rest: UI and issues I’m tracking.
