Event based tracking

I have found a couple of other suggestions which have discussed/touched on some of the same points I will discuss; - https://changemap.co/bearable-/bearable-roadmap/task/4064-more-specific-time-periods-/ - https://changemap.co/bearable-/bearable-roadmap/task/4189-customizable-time-periods-in-factors/

I am mostly using bearable to track my mental health and behaviours. I don’t have much structure/routine in my life, so using the pre/am/mid/pm time periods is ineffective. I have enabled time periods for factors because I would like to track change throughout the day. Not all factors apply to the entire day or even the four time periods. Some factors span across two time periods and appear as if they’ve been applicable for 12 hours (and possibly have more influence to insights). Custom time periods wouldn’t work for me, as shown in the first suggestion, but I can see how this implementation could be useful to others. Logging start/end times against symptoms and factors would work for me, but I can see how the proposed design may be unintuitive if time entry is per factor/symptom. Most days for me span two calendar days as I’m often awake past midnight, which ends up with multiple entries for the same symptoms/factors/moods. My sleep pattern is inconsistent, and I often skip meals so my day doesn’t easily fit into pre/am/mid/pm categories and I can’t always assume am means when I wake up.

I am trying to keep track of many factors and symptoms. The collapsed view is a great overview. However, I find filling the form long and daunting to go through multiple times throughout the day, particularly the symptoms section (and often find myself in the settings adding new symptoms/factors).

I think a slightly different approach is worth discussing. I think Bearable should be aware of the events in my life, and record moods, symptoms, factors and gratitudes against events rather than days/time periods. An event may be specific like a phone call, meeting, sleep, sex, etc. It could be vague like work, home or however the user wishes to divide their day. Health, Meds/Suppliments and Extra Notes should remain separate. Food diary could/should be associated with events as with sleep as you can have multiple or very few meals/sleeps throughout the day.

The home section should still show an overview of the current day but perhaps with a timeline and overview of events and associated symptoms/factors at the top. By default, there should be a ‘general’ event made for each calendar date for generic/unrelated symptoms/factors/moods to events and for users who don’t wish to use events.

Perhaps a customisable wizard walkthrough for data entry would ask you which sections apply and walk you through section by section. For symptoms, it would ask if you had any symptoms and gave you the option to select which groups of symptoms apply. The next few screens would step through each of the selected symptom groups showing the symptoms as both; a list view with a timeline/graph of severity change for this particular event/general day - ability to create new values for these for past and present like mood timestamps a tag cloud view (like moods) for adding unselected symptoms to the list above A review at the end would be nice too.

By implementing events, Bearable will be able to cross-reference moods with people, events and activities more accurately.

For example the other day I was at home and received a call from a colleague which stressed me out for most of the day, but the moods/symptoms on that day have been associated with many unrelated factors.

With an event based feature I would be able to create an event called ‘work phone call’ and tag the moods, factors and symptoms that are associated with this event i.e. Moods: stress, tired Factors: work, phone call, person Symptoms: anxiety, stress

I would have an ongoing event throughout the day called ‘home’ with the following associations; Moods: happy, supported, grateful Factors: home, with partner, watching tv Symptoms: none

When I return to the app later in the day, I would see two ongoing events ‘home’ and ‘work’ call where I can review and update the severity/quantity of all associated symptoms/factors or leave untouched if ongoing and add any new symptoms/factors.

When creating a new event, Bearable assumes you’re making an entry for now (like moods), but you should be able to amend the start/end time for an event and also have the option to select ongoing as an end time. Events should be able to overlap, and nest/be associated with other events.

I hope I’m talking some sense and look forward to hearing your input or some other ideas!

I’m going to read this again, to let it sink in a bit more, but I think a entire walkthrough might be to intense for some people. I know it is usually a lot for me and I mostly skip through. I think a walkthrough per section would be better. Add a question mark to the section, that way you can do that one when you want more info or want to change something about it, or you forgot something.

I specifically searched to make sure this was a suggestion. Adding the ability to put the factors in the mood entries would make a world of difference. I have ADHD and Borderline personality, interactions with many people, and my work schedule can change very quickly. Being able to set the factors as they actually happen (in the mood entries) is what I’ve been trying to get, and Bearable comes closest.
