I use a lot of different adjectives to describe my mood in order to feel I’m beint accurate, so it screws the data when some emotions have only one or two entries. It would be useful to be able to see that negative emotions in general have gone up, even if I’m sometimes angry and sometimes irritated. Or whether I’m ashamed or guilty. Now I’d need to go by “close enough” if I wanted the data be accurate. So I’d definitely find the ability to group emotions by type useful.

A useful version of this would be to have them in a sort of matrix of negative/postive & calm/energetic.

Something like Anxiety is neg-energ, depression neg-calm etc.

I think this is a great idea, would love to see it as an optional thing though. Like if I have a day with a wide range of emotions, or both very positive and very negative emotions and don’t want to label it as neutral.

The Reddit post asked about emotions, but I don’t post on Reddit. So, “bored” is a neutral negative so you need a neutral positive too, like “content”. Then true neutrals “ok”, “meh”, “eh”, “fine”, “so-so”, even “good” is often used more as a neutral/average, and maybe “focused” or “productive”?- no, not true emotions but people often use them that way. I highly recommend searching for “emotion wheel” or “emotion words list”, then you can see tons of options and where therapists/clinicians consider them on the scale. Hope that helps!

Also, another option would be to go the opposite direction, providing a list of words and people assign them a number with corresponding group (i.e, positive, neutral, negative). That may be more difficult, but would allow greater personalization. Everybody’s scale usually looks a little different.

Absolutely essential feature for me! I’m migrating to Bearable from Daylio, and so far I find Bearable’s intuitive interface and complex tracking functions to be a huge improvement overall, but the lack of grouped moods is the one thing Daylio has that I really need. I love the clean look of the mockup on Reddit, though I hope the groups and moods assigned to them will be fully customizable if added, including the ability to create additional custom groups (i.e. to have more than just three groups). If the interface suggested in that mockup doesn’t support additional/custom groups, I would personally much prefer an interface that replicates the symptom tracker interface, allowing for as many custom mood groups as the user needs. As for other “neutral” moods, here are some I’ve used in my neutral category on Daylio: Tired, Restless, Apathetic, Pensive. And a few more suggestions: Hungry, Disconnected, Impassive, Nonverbal, Shy, Distracted, Aware, Grounded, Busy, Wistful, Confused, At A Loss, Weird, Empty, Going Through The Motions, Not Sure, Stable, Accepting, Could Be Worse, Stoic, Resilient. Some of these lean more positive or more negative but of course, again, moods and mood categories are very much a subjective thing that varies from person to person! So as I mentioned, I strongly recommend making mood groups fully customizable if added. Thank you for considering my input! ~Galen

Replying to myself here to add that aside from moods and their respective positive/negative/neutral associations being very subjective, there’s another reason it’s important for mood groups to be fully customizable. For some users, the purpose of mood tracking may not be as simple as positive vs negative. Some might want to track high-intensity emotions vs low-intensity emotions, without regard for whether the tracked emotions are positive or negative. Other examples might be tracking social vs antisocial moods, productive vs unproductive moods, manic vs depressive moods, dissociative vs. aware moods, etc. All of these categories might include moods that are positive, negative, both, or neither. Being able to customize groups would address part of this issue, but I think there’s another potential feature worth considering for Bearable, which is being able to change/customize the mood scale itself. I obviously don’t know how feasible that would be, but even if the customization was only superficial (i.e. users can customize the labels/emojis on the mood scale but the underlying code that tracks mood scores remains the same) I think it would be an amazingly helpful addition to the Bearable app for many users, and eliminate one of the only major disadvantages of Bearable compared to competitors like Daylio.

I love this idea!! I’ve found myself adding more and more specific emotions trying to convey, for example, a word for anxious but excited, anxious but dreading it, anxious but confident, etc. Big fan of this update!!

I would rather just have them listed alphabetically

If you implement this, please don’t make us use judgment words! I understand how this could be helpful for some people, but for others labelling an emotion unconditionally good or bad can be damaging. If you implement this feature, the grouping should be editable or removable. Thank you

this idea really resonates with me. I like to keep really specific labels for my moods, but the semantics become a tracking problem when they’re all isolated variables.

Just thought I’d add my two cents here: I frequently log positive/negative/neutral mood simultaneously (because we can all feel more than one thing at once!) so I would definitely prefer some sort of matrix or I can see all of the emotions rather than the example and Reddit with a sliding bar that adds more clicks for me to log combination of emotions.
