Start recording button

Sometimes Arc won’t notice that I’ve moved to a new place (for example, I live two blocks from work, and sometimes Arc doesn’t start recording when I leave). Usually to make it recognize that I have left, I stop recording and start it again immediately, which is inconvenient and gives me a bunch of dialogue boxes, warnings about unrecorded activities, and so on.

I’d love it if there was just a button that let me start recording state from sleep state. Even better, a Siri shortcut could be awesome and perhaps even let me automate or semi-automate things, like linking it to my door open/close sensor. If Arc doesn’t detect an activity after 2 minutes (or whatever the default is), it should go to sleep

Hi! Thanks for your suggestion 😄 Unfortunately I have to reject it, as this indicates a bug rather than something that should be a new feature.

The solution to the problem is to find out why your phone isn’t providing location data that Arc is recognising as away from your previous location.

Often this can be fixed by doing a bit of tidy up on the segments inside of the visits in question. Once the segments have been split up appropriately, and reclassified as their appropriate types (eg stationary, walking, etc), Arc will learn enough from those edits to be able to do the job itself next time and from then on.

I recommend emailing me some screenshots of the details views of the visits in question. (Preferably email from the Feedback & Support button in the app, so that useful debug information is included). Then we can work through what’s going on in that particular case, and figure out how to correct the data so that Arc can recognise your movements automatically in future.

    Thanks 😄 Matt
