Solid (https://solidproject.org/) is a set of open standards protocols which allows people to own their data on whichever (possibly self-hosted) server they want, and allow people to let apps write/read the data for processing (instead of the usual model where apps own their bespoke databases). It would be very well suited for the sort of private & sensitive data that people have in Exist.
