Blood sugar levels (blood glucose)

I just found out i’m pre-diabetic and after scanning just some of the literature and speaking to other people who are (pre) diabetic - correlation between your blood sugar levels and your overall health has been extensively documented so I won’t try to explain it here. That said I think there’s a great opportunity to build this into your overall health/wellbeing tracking.

This is a very general suggestion for a new attribute, but we also have an existing suggestion for getting this data from Apple Health - please vote for the latter if you use Apple Health.

Hi Josh, with 100 million people in the US[1] and 1.2 million Aussies[2] with diabetes ,the number of potential users for this stands well above any other integration point that I can reasonable conceive that your tool has today. (well, you already have Fitbit and Strava so… :))

Diabetes is listed as the 7th largest cause of death in the US with ~250k a people listing it as the primary reason [3]

A quick check out there of the existing tools and it seems to be that intelligent Diabetes/food/exercise/lifestyle cross-tracking is an (insanely) underrepresented domain, hence I thought it a great idea here as this disease has a meaningful impact on the lives of the people who have it.

As there are literally hundreds of manual devices on the market today for blood glucose monitoring, data collection and gathering is not well centralized/stored/available for consumption - thankfully the data points required are very basic (Time of Day, HGL level + one of three options fasting/pre-meal/post meal)

To provide some further details here of the potential benefits to have this in your tool - lifestyle changes to diet and exercise can completely reverse Type 2 diabetes in a person (this is a literal statement, my doctor informed me) - and being able to identify trends and correlations between how one’s lifestyle choices can take away a disease that kills millions each year would be enormously beneficial.

Hopefully that provides a far less generic request for a data point :)

General as in we don’t have a particular integration to target here to get the data from, just the attribute itself. I’m definitely happy to add it but until we know which devices actually make the data accessible then just adding the attribute is not a concrete way to help people looking to sync this data. Hope that makes sense!

    Hi Josh,

sorry for jumping in. I use a glucose sensor and store the data in Apple health (with some mannual tricks). So the only thong you would have to support is to transfer the glucose level using the exist ios app ;) (not really a big task)

So, you would not have to care about a huge number of devices, but just read the value from apple health

    best regards

    Mats
